As speculated, David Hernandez is back in Baltimore, replacing Uehara in the rotation.
Uehara will apparently not just be skipped in the rotation, but put on the DL.
As the O’s go for the sweep today vs DC, what can we expect out of Hernandez?
Hernandez made 3 starts for Norfolk after being sent back to the Minors.
In the initial start, he was held to a pitch-count and only went 4 innings, but had 7 k’s.
In the second start, he went 6 innings, allowing 5 er, 7 hits, 2 bb’s, with 8 k’s.
In the the most recent start, he again only went 4 innings, as he was pulled in preparation for today’s start.
You can expect the adrendline to again be pumping for Hernandez; will that hurt his control?
Will he be on a pitch-count? If he only has 85-90 pitches in him today, can he get through the 5th?
He will need to be efficient in the game early on.
Starting tomorrow, the O’s play their next 7 games against Boston, and the LA Angels.
You can not have a flame-out today, that completely taxes the bullpen.
You need at least 5 innings, and perferably 6 today out of Hernandez.
