Chris Tillman took the mound for AAA Norfolk tonight, and for the 6th consecutive outing, went at least 6 innings.
Tonight, Tillman pitched 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 0 er, 0 bb’s, with 6 k’s.
He improved his record to 7-5 overall, with a 2.50 era.
The 21 year-old has now pitched 86.1 innings, allowing 72 hits, 22 walks, with 88 k’s.
He has not been scored on in the last 13.2 innings.
Clearly, Tillman has reached a point where he is no longer being challenged at AAA.
He was in the same AA rotation with Bergesen, Hernandez, and Berken last year, and he had the same or greater success than each.
Obviously the decision to promote him to the Majors has little to do with the Organization’s believe in his ability to be successful; but if he should be held back due to his, and possible desire to get an additional year of service time by bringing Tillman to the Majors in late-April 2010.
I think the Warehouse is likely to decide that his time is now, and that he joins the O’s immediately after the All-Star break.
