George ‘Flat Breezy’ Sherrill has been traded to the LA Dodgers for an apparent package of 3rd-baseman Josh Bell & RHP Steven Johnson .
This is another example of the dividends that continue to be received from the trade of Eric Bedard.
Bell is currently in AA, and turns 23 in November. In 334 at-bats for Chattanooga, Bell has an .883 OPS. This includes 30 doubles, 2 triples, 11 homers, 52 rbi, 50 walks, and 70 k’s.
The young switch-hitter, will have a great chance to take over 3rd for the O’s at some-point during 2010. His splits vs right-handed, and left-handed pitching are extremely pronounced. Currently an OPS of 1.025 vs RHP, and an OPS of .566 vs LHP.
Johnson is the son of former Oriole (and current announcer) Dave Johnson.
Steven will turn 22 in August, and had recently joined Bell at AA.
His combined Single A, and Double A 2009 stats are:
9-5, 3.61 era, with 107.1 innings pitched, 102 hits allowed, 15 homers, 45 walks, and 117 k’s.
You can expect him to finish 2009 at Bowie, and probably start there in 2010.

“Prototypical big-bat third baseman with well-above-average raw power from both sides of the plate. He made solid strides last year in developing a more patient approach, and he also improved his defensive fundamentals, which are supplemented by an outstanding arm.”
