Turned 34 in late October…
In 2007, he pitched 175 innings, allowing 183 hits, with 87 k’s, and 51 walks
In 2008, he pitched 199 innings, allowing 216 hits, with 101 k’s and 45 walks
I could live with a one year deal, but I would be fine with not signing him.
Currently, I am projecting the staff as:
Guthrie, Uehara, Hendrickson, Liz, Albers
Sherrill,Ray,Johnson,Walker,Sarfate,Penn, Pauley
With Baez traded or released before Opening Day and Bergesen, Hernandez, Tillman, Berken, Patton, Mickolio, McCrory, Hoey, Arrieta, Matusz all arms that can help you at different points during 2009.
Penn and Pauley are both out options, and will make the team if healthy.
If you signed Looper, Hendrickson probably goes back to the bullpen, and maybe the team makes a push to move Walker before Opening Day… or maybe they send Liz back to AAA.
In a year where you do not expect to compete, the to be 26 year old Liz needs to get Major League innings over the 34 year-old Looper.
