As horrific as the Terp’s 1-3 start to the 2009 season has been, this Saturday will mark their first ACC game of the season.
If I am the MD Coaching-staff, I have been selling the team on a revised overall goal of being competitive in the ACC’s Atlantic Division.
As a reminder, the ACC Atlantic is comprised of the following:
Clemson (2-2 overall, 1-1 in the ACC)
Boston College (3-2 overall, 1-1 in the ACC)
North Carolina State (3-1 overall, 0-0 in the ACC)
Florida State (2-2 overall, 0-1 in the ACC)
Wake Forest (2-2 overall, 0-1 in the ACC)
Maryland (1-3 overall, 0-0 in the ACC)
The Terps host Clemson this Saturday, and will host Boston College to end the year. In-between, they make visits to Wake, NCST, and FSU.
Of those 5 games, the only game I look at and see almost zero chance of winning is against FSU. Even in the game, you could make the point that the Seminoles were pushed at home by Jacksonville State, and lost this past weekend to South Florida. So, it is possible that you catch FSU on an off-day.
Here is a quick-look at how the division foes arrived at their record:
Clemson: Won big against Middle Tennessee, with several large returns. Lost by 3 at Georgia Tech, and beat up Boston College at home. This past weekend, they lost by 4 at home to #15 TCU.
Boston College: Routed Northeastern, and Kent State to start the year. As mentioned were crushed at Clemson. Beat Wake Forest at home by 3.
North Carolina State: Lost at home 7-3 to South Carolina, put up a ton of points in wins against 1AA Murray State, and Gardner Webb. Also beat Pittsburgh 38-31 in a shoot-out. Have yet to play on the road.
Florida State: Tough loss at home to Miami, in a great game. Slept walk through a win against Jax State, until they made some plays late. Went west and blew the doors off of BYU, only to come home and suffer a disappointing loss of their own against South Florida.
Wake Forest: Loss a tough game to Baylor at home by 3, and rebounded to beat Stanford at home by 7 the following week. Beat up 1AA Elon at home, before losing by 3 at Boston College. Coach Grobe always finds a way to keep Wake in games.
