The Baltimore Sun reported today that the O’s will announce the release of Jamie Walker, and promotion of Alberto Castillo.

I made clear in a lot of places last year that I was not a fan of Castillo, but I am happy to see this move.

If you are going to have the pure lefty specialist on the roster – and you are going to use Sherrill as the closer – you have to get better production vs what Walker was providing.

I am a bit surprised that the move was not for W. Perez though.

Uehara is due to re-join the O’s on the 10th, and I think there is an open question of how the pitching staff will be comprised when that happens.

It appears that either Berken or Hernandez will be sent down to make room. My choice would be for either Berken or Hernandez to replace Castillo in the bullpen.

I believe having that additional arm that could stretch, would be of greater benefit to the team, vs the LOOGY.
