On the MLB Network, CNNSI reporter Jon Heyman states Sheets believes with the surgery he could be back for the 2nd-half of 2009.
If I were the Orioles, I would still have interest in Sheets.
At this point, everyone is going to back away from him, until after the surgery and he has gone through some rehab.
You could argue that the O’s should run away from Sheets, or you could argue that his injury gives the Orioles an opportunity to obtain him at a discounted price.
You could sign him with the intention of him missing all of the 2009 season, and preparing him to be back for 2010.
If Sheets thinks he can be back for the 2nd-half of 2009 – he is hearing from his Doctors, that the possibility exists.
If the possibility exists for him to return for the 2nd-half of 2009, being ready to pitch to start 2010 should be realistic.
