Right-hander Brandon Erbe pitched 8 no-hit innings for AA Bowie last-night.
In those 8 scoreless innings of work, Erbe allowed 3 walks, with 5 k’s.
Erbe was out of action from April 29th through July 12th, but this has been somewhat of a break-through season for Erbe.
In 9 starts for the Baysox, Erbe has pitched a total of 47.2 innings, allowing just 29 hits, with 21 walks, and 40 k’s.
The walk-rate is too high, but the hits, and k’s per inning are very solid.
Lefties are hitting .210 against him, and Righties have been held to a ridiculously low .138 batting average against.
Combined with his rehab in Aberdeen, Erbe has pitched a total of 61.1 2009 innings. This comes after logging 150.2 innings of work for Frederick in 2008.
You have to wonder if the O’s will be considering sending Erbe to the Arizona Fall League this year?
Erbe will turn 22 on Christmas Day, and likely head back to Bowie to start 2010. Most likely he would be sent back there as a starter, to continue to gain extended experience, and to build his arm.
I do wonder if the O’s would consider converting him to a Closer, and putting him on the fast-track to Baltimore?
