Da’Rel Scott was recently named the ACC’s 29th best player by ESPN Blogger (and former Baltimore Sun writer) Heather Dinich.

Her comments on Scott:
“Scott is an elusive runner with breakaway speed, and he was the second-leading rusher in the ACC last year behind only Jonathan Dwyer. Scott is entering this fall off an impressive MVP performance against Nevada in the Humanitarian Bowl. Despite being suspended for the first half of that game, Scott came in and rushed for a Maryland bowl record 174 yards on 14 carries — 12.4 yards per carry. With that performance, Scott became the seventh player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and the first since Chris Downs in 2002.
Scott had five 100-yard rushing performances last year. He finished the season with 1,133 rushing yards — the seventh-highest single-season total all-time at Maryland — and a team-best eight touchdowns. He also finished fifth in the league in all-purpose yards with 108.7 per game, as his ability to catch out of the backfield came in handy. He’s also a threat as a kick returner.
In order to move up on this list, he’s got to do better than 11 yards rushing against Virginia Tech, get into the end zone against FSU and get more than 19 yards against Boston College. If he would have run all season like he did against UNC (129 yards and a touchdown), more people would know his name. Consistency will be the key for Scott in ’09. He should have that in his second season as a starter.”
I am glad to see Scott get named, thought I think it would have been fair to mention he played with a shoulder injury most of the 2008 season.
