Prior to their game in Kansas City tonight, the Baltimore Orioles traded Miguel Tejada to the San Diego Padres for 24 year-old Wynn Pelzer.
The RHP is 6-9, with a 4.20 era for AA San Antonio. In 94.1 innings of work, Pelzer has allowed 102 hits, 56 walks, and has 83 k’s. Opposing hitters are batting .277 against him, and he has Ground-ball to Fly-ball ratio of 1.25.
In 2009, Pelzer had a strong-year in the Single A California League. He worked 150.2 innings, allowing just 134 hits, 59 walks, with 147 k’s.
Based on that success, Pelzer entered the 2010 season as Baseball America’s 7th best prospect in the San Diego system.
I’m happy for Tejada that he gets to again join a contender. He should be rejuvenated by his change in the standings, and it would not be surprising to see him produce.
While the Orioles are playing Wigginton at 3rd tonight, it would be my hope this is a signal that Josh Bell will be occupying the hot-corner for the last two-months of this season.
