It was announced today that Hippolyte Tsafack, a class of 2010 PF who had been considering the University of Maryland, will be playing his college ball at Memphis instead.

The Terps had a great chance at signing Tsafack, who teams at the Miller School with Mychal Parker.

Maryland was likely hoping that Tsafack would hold-back his college decision, until after the final decision of Tobias Harris.

Harris will be visiting College Park this weekend, before ending his official college visits at Georgia Tech. The Top 20 PF is set to announce his college intentions one-week from tonight.

Maryland has already has the makings of a major-class, with the verbals of PG Terrell Stoglin, SF Terrence Ross, and the SG Parker.

After this 2009-10 season, the Terps will see the departure of Vasquez, Hayes, and Milbourne.

Even after adding Stoglin, Ross, and Parker; the Terps have the ability to add two scholarship players for next year. Currently, the roster looks like:

2010-11:

1) Bowie, Stoglin
2) Tucker, Ross
3) Mosley, Parker, JSC
4) Padgett, Gregory
5) Williams, Goins,

Based on everything that you read, and has been reported about PF Ashon Pankey’s visit to Maryland last week, it seems apparent he wants to be a Terp.

My guess is that Maryland Coaching staff has told him that they they first need to see if Harris will commit to being a Terp. If that occurs, Maryland will then have to decide if they want to use all 5 available scholarships for the 2010 class, or save a scholarship for 2011.

If Harris was not committed to announcing his college decision next-week, I would advocate making Pankey official now. Since Harris’ decision is coming rapidly, I think it makes sense to wait and see what Harris decides. You would not want to accept a Pankey verbal, and give Harris reason to look away from the Terps.
