Kevin Millwood was brought to Baltimore to provide innings, and stability to the rotation. To lead by example, and give the O’s young-pitchers a veteran they can emulate.
Today is a day I expect big things from Millwood. The rotation has gone 1 time through, and they were competitive enough. Not great, but good enough for their first outings. Obviously you expect the innings to increase starting now.
As the innings are stretched by the starters, the bullpen is less-taxed, and Trembley will have a greater ability to mix and match his relievers against the opposition. Millwood needs to go deep today. I’m thinking at-least 7, and would love to see him work into the 8th.
The Birds looked comatose last-night. If Millwood needs to put a couple of Blue Jays batters on their back-side, and light a fire – so be it.
As long as the rotation continues to keep the Orioles in games like they should, the O’s are going to have a much better season here in 2010. That is unless you believe the lineup is not going to hit all season. As much I am talking about Millwood’s arm today, the leaders of the Orioles offense have to step-up today as well.
The reality is that this while this team should be 3-2, they are 1-4. You are what your record says you are. You can not feel sorry for your yourselves, you can not take real satisfaction in moral-victories. You need to step-up and perform. I believe Millwood is going to provide that lesson to his new-team today.
