There is a lot to agree with in Melewski’s blog about this ‘situation.’
Like Melewski, I have made no secret of the fact that I am a large fan of Reimold’s.
That is in large-part due to Reimold having had 693 AA at-bats, in which he has produced 201 hits, 44 doubles, 3 triples, 36 homers, 118 rbi, 117 runs, 80 walks, 129 k’s, 290 baa, and an 880ish OPS.
Before Pie was obtained, I wanted Reimold and Scott to share LF/DH for the O’s in 2009.
If Scott was traded now, I would have no problem with Reimold being the everyday DH for the O’s this season.
That all said, now that Pie has been obtained… there is no question that Pie needs to be the everyday LF for the O’s in 2009.
This is an organization that has been devoid of positional prospects, and we have obtained a strong-one for basically nothing from the Cubs.
Look at Pie’s numbers:
2006 AAA age 21 – 559 at-bats, 792 OPS, 158 hits, 33 doubles, 8 triples, 15 homers, 57 rbi, 17 steals, 11 caught stealing, 126 k’s, 46 walks, 283 avg, 341 onbase, 451 slugging

2009 Projection – 500 MLB at-bats, 738 OPS, 135 hits, 20 doubles, 7 triples, 12 homers, 60 rbi, 15 steals, 7 caught stealing, 140 k’s, 35 walks, 270 avg, 320 onbase, 418 slugging
This kid was a major prospect for a reason… and 260 poor MLB at-bats during 2007 and 2008 at ages 22, and 23 do not erase his accomplishments.
His age, and his Minor League production (even when you account for inflated Pacific Coast League numbers) make him a legitimate prospect, and potentially a player to build around.
He needs regular, everyday playing time, and all Oriole fans should be estatic he is in an O’s uniform.
