Brian Matusz’s domination of the AA Eastern League continued last-night, as he improved to 7-0.
Working 7 scoreless innings, Matusz allowed 4 hits, 3 walks, with 6 k’s.
This brings his cumulative AA numbers to: 45.1 innings pitched, 30 hits, 2 homers, 10 walks, 45 k’s.
Really interested to see how the O’s Front-office chooses to handle Matusz’s development the rest of the year.
For the season, he has pitched a total of 112 innings, so there is likely sentiment of shutting him down after another 20-30 innings.
It has been stated that there is no intent to bring him to the bigs when the rosters expand September 1st.
So, essentially you are looking at his season ending 8/31.
If the O’s were going to let him come to Spring Training and compete for the O’s roster; I believe they would promote Matusz to Norfolk now.
If they do not promote Matusz to Norfolk now, I take that as a sign that they want Matusz to continue to put up numbers at Bowie, and that he will definitively be assigned to Norfolk to start 2010.
