The 18-11,7-8 MD Terrapins head to UVA to face the 3-12, 9-17 Cavaliers, with an NCAA Tournament bid hanging in the balance.
Earlier this year, the Terps beat UVA at home 84-78.
In that game, MD was up 15 at half-time, and held on at the end. The Terps lost on the boards 21-34, but had 11 steals, and forced 19 turnovers.
MD was also exceptional at the foul-line, going 21 for 24.
Eric Hayes had 10pts, 11 assists, 0 turnovers, and 3 steals.
Milbourne, and Bowie had 17 a piece, and Vasquez had 16.
Dino Gregory had a big game in reserve with 8pts, 2 boards, and 1 block.
For the game, MD shot 54% from the floor, and held the Cavs to 6 for 20 from 3.
UVA Freshman sensation Landesberg was held to 7pts.
The Cavs were lead by Soph Forward Mike Scott who had 16pts, and 10 boards.
Junior Forward Jamil Tucker had 21 pts, and Junior Guard Calvin Baker had 16.
Former MD recruit Jeff Jones did not score. In fact, in his 3 career games against MD, he has not scored a point.
After beating Clemson, and VaTech in back to back games at home in mid-February, UVA has now lost 4 games in a row.
It is a reasonable expectation that in their last regular season game of the year, at home, on Senior day – that Virginia will at least play with effort today. Always tough to win on the road in conference play, and I expect the Terps will have to work for the victory.
With the way the bubble teams have faired Nationally this week, the projections for MD have continued to improve.
The Bracketologist Jerry Palm currently has MD as a 10 seed, and stated yesterday on the Bob Haynie show (WNST 1570 Baltimore) that he believes the Terps would be in the NCAA Tournament with a win today, even with a 1st round ACCT loss to Miami/NCST next week.
