If an ugly win, is still a win… then a hard-fought loss is still a loss.
The Terps showed a lot of positives in their 62-60 defeat vs the Hurricanes last night.
While playing a very athletic, experienced team… MD was consistently quicker to the ball. Terps showed how their 3 guard set (and Milbourne as a SF playing the PF) could cause match-up problems with teams featuring traditional lineups.
Bowie exploded for 23pts, 5boards, 3assists, and 2 steals. Milbourne only had 8 pts, but did have 7 boards, and 4 blocked shots.
Overall, the Terps had 7 steals, 7 blocks… and competed on the boards losing 28-36.
You went into this game hoping to steal a win… and found yourself with a 17pt lead with a little over 12mts left in the game.
MD seemed a bit unsure of how to play with that lead, a contrast to their game against Michigan. The primary difference between those two games, is that last night was on the road.
As a team (and a fanbase) you can do one of two things… you can dwell on the negative of losing a 17pt lead… or you can be encouraged that MD was able to play at that level, and take a last-second shot for the win.
Myself, I would try and build off the positives and prepare myself for Florida State Saturday.
Other Notes:
– MD only had 6 foul shots… and this is where the game was lost.. Guards needed to get more shots in the paint (that lead to more fouls) and get to the line.
– Neal has gone cold from 3, missing three shots last night… making him 2 for his last 14.
– Tucker gave a few positive mts in the first-half, and was buried again in the 2nd-half… Gregory had 17mts, and while I was happy to see him take 4 shots, you needed more dirty work from him… only 1 board, 1 block, 1 steal.
– Hayes only had 4 shots…. 7pts, 4 boards, 4 assists, 0 turnovers…
– Extremely quiet night from Mosley.. After 7mts vs GaTech, Jin-Soo Kim did not get off the bench vs Miami.
– MD missed Burney last night.
