Troy Patton and Brandon Snyder again had huge efforts for Bowie last night.
Patton went 5 innings, allowed 5 hits, with 0er, 0 walks, and 5 k’s.
He is 4-1, with a 1.14 era… for the year he has now pitched 39.1 innings, allowed 26 hits, 5 er, 10 walks, with 28 k’s.
Both lefties and right-handed hitters are batting under .200 against Patton.
What is possibly left for him to accomplish at the AA level?
Typically AA ball has more talented, but less mature, prospects vs AAA. At this point, I think you need to see Patton at Norfolk, and give some more developed players an opportunity to face him.
Patton’s Bowie teammate Brandon Snyder homered for the 7th time, and knocked in 2 runs.
Snyder is batting 373, with a 1.060 OPS, 20 extra-base hits, and 31 rbi.
If you want to keep Snyder at AA so that he can continue to face pitchers with better pure ‘stuff’, ok I think that has merit.
On the other-hand, is he being challenged at all?
Aubrey Huff’s contract expires after the 2009 season… Huff not being part of the 2010 Orioles is more likely than not.
If Snyder would get the first opportunity internally to replace Huff, would it be a better use of time to promote him to AAA now and let him get as many at-bats as possible vs pitchers with a higher degree of refinement?
