The Baltimore Sun is reporting tonight that the Baltimore Ravens have resigned WR Derrick Mason to a 2 year-deal.

With this signing, I believe Ravens now get the full-benefit of adding Boldin. If Boldin had been obtained, and Mason lost; the positive addition of Boldin by himself would have been mitigated.
Without Mason, you would have been asking Flacco to essentially start completely over with a new receiving corps. It is my opinion that would have been detrimental to Flacco’s growth. Now, you can picture teams keying on Boldin, and Mason seeing additional single-coverage opposite of him. The pre-existing relationship between Flacco and Mason; which has allowed Mason to catch 153 passes during Flacco’s 2 professional-seasons gets to continue.
This just win-win for everyone involved. Mason no-longer has to worry about shouldering the receiving game on his own. He also gets the 2nd-year he was looking for, and should feel good about. Boldin does not have to walk into town and be the proverbial savior. Flacco gets an improved receiving corps, and Ray Rice gets defenders pulled out of the box. The entire organization gains by definitively knowing Mason will be back.
Boldin, Mason, Stallworth, Clayton/Williams, with Heap presents plenty of quality options for Flacco. Combine that group with a 1st-Round TE (Gresham, Hernandez, McCoy), and you have the makings of an outstanding (if not prolific) passing-attack.
