I am estatic that the Baltimore Ravens and Terrell Suggs have completed a long-term extension.
Suggs has signed for 6 years, and $63M, receiving the 2nd largest bonus, and option bonus ever. ($30M over the first 2 years).
To compete in the NFL, you need a consistent pass-rush. You could argue that Suggs is not the elite of the elite, since his career high in sacks is 12 which came in his rookie season.
However, Suggs is a 3 time Pro Bowl player that has evolved into a better LB, with the ability to drop-back into coverage. Suggs did have 2 picks this past-season.Suggs turns 27 in October, and I believe has matured a lot as a Raven.
Some might think he has too many miles on his tires to be worth a long-term extension… but I would suggest that since he has not been a true DE only, that he should have a number of healthy productive years ahead of him.
As my friend Rob mentioned to me today, the good thing is the largest cap hit is next year, when it appears an uncapped season could occur.
My respect for Suggs went way up after what he did in the AFC Championship, and after reading his comments all of this offseason.
In May, I discussed the 6 Ravens I believed were most in-need of a contract extension. Suggs was number 2 on my list.
