15-8, 4-5 MD hosts the 15-7, 5-3 Hokies on Saturday.

Before coming to College Park, VaTech plays Georgia Tech at home tomorrow.

Virginia Tech is led by the trio of Malcolm Delaney (Towson Catholic, Baltimore), AD Vassallo, and Jeff Allen (Dematha).

Delaney is a 6’3 Soph guard, who avgs 18.5ppg, shooting 38.7% from 3, 86.5% from the line, 3.7 assists, 2.9 turnovers, and 1.5 steals per game.

Vassallo is a 6’6 Senior forward, who avgs 18.4ppg, shooting 36.8% from 3, 79.2% from the line, and 6.2 rebounds.

Allen is a 6’7 240 Soph F/C, who avgs 14.7ppg, 8.8 rebounds, 62.4% from the line, and 1.6 blocks.

After Delaney hits his first 3 Saturday, expect Terp fans to turn and ask why is he not in a MD uniform?

Of course the reason is that in the class ahead of him, MD had taken both Hayes and Vasquez as ball-handling guards… and more importantly, in his class had received a verbal from Jeff Jones.

Jones kept his verbal to MD for over 6 months, and the Terps believed they had addressed the 2G. When Jones de-verbaled from MD, and signed his Letter of Intent with UVA – I believe MD attempted to get back involved, but it was to late.

MD did however sign Bowie, from basketball rich Montrose Christian, and Cliff Tucker – who was a Top 100 recruit in his own-right.

This game is as close as you get to must-win territory for MD. With a win, the Terps pull back even in ACC play at 5-5.

I believe the ACC is going to get 8 NCAAT bids. 5 of those bids are just about locked-up (UNC, Duke, Wake, Clemson, BC)… Out of FSU, VaTech, MD, and Miami, I expect 3 of the 4 will receive bids.

The Terps will need the head-to-head win vs The Hokies.

For the year, VaTech has:

Wins against – Gardner Webb (3pts), MtStMary’s (5pts), Fairfield, Elon, Navy, Longwood, Columbia, @St Johns, @Charleston Southern, UVA, Richmond, Boston College,
@ #1 Wake Forest, @ Miami, NCST

Losses against – Xavier, Seton Hall, Wisconsin, @Georgia, @Duke, Clemson, @Boston College,
