Overall, Troy Patton has had a rough transition to AAA in 2009.
As I have said numerous times, 2009 was never about results for Patton. You just wanted to see the guy be able to regularly take the ball every 5th day.
His consistency and production at AA Bowie was a bonus.
That said, I am happy to see him maybe turning the corner a bit for AAA Norfolk.
At the end of the year, you want Patton to feel good about what has accomplished. I think with another off-season of rehab, and conditioning, that Patton will be ready to produce in 2010.
Obviously he will go back to Norfolk to start the year, but if injuries occur, and need arises; Patton should be a viable option by June next year.
The last two starts were nothing ‘special’, but they were solid enough.
7/26: 5 innings, 6 hits, 2 er, 0 bb’s, 4 k’s
7/31: 5 innings, 6 hits, 2 er, 2 bb’s, 5 k’s
Patton has now pitched a combined 104.1 innings for the year, and you would have to think the O’s are considering shutting him down for the year.
If he pitches all the way through August, and adds another 20-30 innings to his totals, that will have been a widely successful season.
