As mentioned previously, I question Uehara’s ability to go through the 2009 season as a starter, after spending 2007, and 2008 in the bullpen in Japan.
I do not question Uehara’s likelyhood of starting Game 2 of this season though.
While he is a Major League ‘rookie’, we are talking about a guy that has appeared in 276 Japanese games, with 151 starts, and 2 Sawamura Awards (Japanese Cy Young).
The guy is a professional in every-sense of the word, and I am sure he knows what is necessary for him to take the mound April 8th.
