ESPN reported this morning that the Ravens are actively trying to trade RB Willis McGahee for a draft-pick.
What sense does that possibly make? You have a roster built for a push towards the Super Bowl, and you are willing to move your back-up RB?
Ray Rice might go through the entire unscathed, or he might blow his ACL next-week. If Rice does go down for any significant amount of time, it would be nice to be able to turn the rock over to a guy with the track-record of McGahee.
You might be thinking I am just forgetting McClain, but I am not. I do believe in McClain’s ability to run the ball (and he is also an underrated receiver out of the backfield). Most importantly though, he is the only Full-back on the roster. This offense typically utilizes McClain as the lead-blocker for Rice. If you traded away McGahee, do you want the primary back-up RB being the guy you are counting on to help open paths for Rice?
In a year where you are built to push for a Super Bowl, is the leadership at the Castle really just as comfortable with Parmele as they would be with McGahee.
The Ravens did not have a 1st round pick this season, and now may have also lost Kindle. I understand they want to gain back some picks, and add youth to the roster through the draft. You just can not trade McGahee now to help accomplish that goal.
