There has been plenty of attention directed towards Reimold, Jones, and Markakis regarding their offensive production this year. Somewhat missing in those discussions is the relative lack of production from Wieters.
Wieters simply needs to produce more, for this to be an effective offense.
Since May 5th, Wieters has seen his OPS decrease from .785 to just .701 after last-night in Texas. His last extra-base hit came May 8th in Minnesota.
In April he had 8 walks, and 16 k’s. In May he has 5 walks, and 15 k’s.
His OPS against RHP is just .694 (was .804 last year). He only needs 1 hot-streak over several weeks to bring his numbers to expected norms, but that needs to happen soon.
Perhaps you have to think about getting him more time at DH, and avoiding some of the wear and tear of catching every-day.
