Maryland is projected to make the dance as a 12 seed.
6 other ACC teams are projected to make the Dance:
North Carolina is a projected 2 seed
Duke is a projected 3 seed
Clemson is a projected 5 seed
Georgia Tech is a projected 7 seed
Wake Forest is a projected 9 seed
Florida State is a projected 10 seed
As I said last week when ESPN’s Dick Vitale left Maryland out of his Top 40, I find this interesting.
Maryland is returning 10 players from a team that beat the National Champion, and the National Runner-up. 10 players from a team that beat Michigan, and beat California in the 1st-round of the NCAA Tournament this year.
They are adding two players that will help address the most glaring weakness.
Maryland has no business being a 12 seed in the 2010 Tournament.
They should be a 10-6 team in conference, and somewhere around a 4 to 6 seed, that is expected to advance to the Sweet 16.
Yahoo / Rivals also has several other teams MD will face this year in their projected field.
Villanova will be the Terps opponent in the BB&T, is seen a potential #1 seed.
Gonzaga, and Vanderbilt who MD could potentially face in Maui, are seen as 7, and 9 seeds respectively.
Interestingly, while some Big East Coaches think Lance Stephenson could lead the Cincinnati Bearcats to the Big East title; Yahoo/Rivals does not have them even reaching the tournament.
